Position Description Summary:
The Manager Customs Competency Center, will lead the activities that deliver the clearances to our customers’ imports effectively and efficiently. The individual is responsible for all customs production activities at Schenker Canada 24/7 Competency Center. With a culture on quality, customer focus and continuous change, the individual will review current processes and structure, design and implement changes that will maximize the satisfaction of our customers while assuring optimum profitability.
Principal Accountabilities:
• Maintain all Customs files and records in compliance with Customs requirements, local regulations and Internal Quality System Standards
• Ensure that all import transactions meet compliance standards set forth by Canadian Customs regulations and other governmental agencies
• Lead and manage all custom production activities
• Identify, monitor and report on production metrics used for output optimization, time compression and quality
• Manage the CCC through key metrics, productivity, and process improvements to measure the individual and collective results of the department
• Maximizing production output / quality through best practice and continuous improvement methodology
• Identify and implement the technology needed to support the production flow and quality levels
• Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs
• Provide management guidelines, training and organization to the Department. Show leadership abilities and initiative to make adjustment to processes and tools to make the team more effective and efficient as a whole.
• Collaborate in the budget process and responsible for achieving budget targets within their responsibility
• Collaborating on strategies and tactics necessary to expand and grow the customs business
• Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
• Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the quality system within CCC
• Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working area.
Knowledge and Skills:
• 8 -10 years of Customs Brokerage experience
• 8 years of experience in management role – specifically within a Customs Brokerage Department
• Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) – must have
• Canada Customs Brokers Licensed preferred
• High school Diploma
• Assertive, excellent leadership, team builder, people skills
• 5+ years of quality management experience
• Superior verbal and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation and decision making skills
• Advanced analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to think and act independently with little direction to meet deadlines
• Ability to develop and communicate plans effectively
