ONxpress Transportation Partners (ONxpress) was chosen by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) to enter the Development Phase of the On-Corridor Works project – the largest project in Metrolinx’s GO Expansion. Unprecedented in its scale and complexity, this multi-billion dollar capital program will transform the GO regional rail network with electrification, more frequent service, shorter journey times and a more modernized system for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Opportunity
ONxpress Transportation Partners, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) is looking for a Expert -Communication Systems. In this role, you will review all communications (Coms) system design documents and submit appropriate recommendations in accordance with Railway standards to ensure the effective implementation of all Coms equipment, ensuring adherence to quality, schedule, and costs, and leading coordination with project partners. Review maintenance management documents such as annual, monthly, and weekly maintenance plans; maintenance job plans; and other O&M deliverables with respective COMS systems maintenance work. Both corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance activities are effectively carried out as per the submitted schedule. This brownfield project will significantly enhance the service delivery proposition for riders across Toronto and surrounding areas and will ensure a long-lasting sustainable economic, environmental and lifestyle contribution to its current and longer-term society needs.
Responsibility
- Provide skilled technical assistance, quality service and advice on COMMS infrastructure including Routers, Switches, Hubs. Providing support for L2 and L3 field asset connectivity over MPLS network.
- Good knowledge of OSI layers and communications at Networking level using IP Addressing, Network Address Translation (NAT)ting, remote access, and trouble-shooting communication faults.
- Have some knowledge of various IoT devices and their connection to Network for monitoring and data collection.
- Maintaining uptime of systems such as cable, transmission network, Radio, CCTV, public information display, public address system and all interface matters to team members and infrastructure owners.
- Ability to develop Service Level Agreement (SLA) between NOC and Field Staff
- Provide technical assistance to Back Office NOC teams for trouble shooting network fault
- Support the O&M interface function to project partners and the Contracting Authority for all Structures, Signaling, Rolling stock and Civil related topics
- Create regular reports regarding adherence to inspection schedule and escalate any deviations
- Witness and guide COMS systems corrective maintenance activities to ensure that are performed in accordance with the approved Operation and Maintenance documents
- Ensure the operations of the COMS systems are carried out safely and as per RAMS requirements
- Support Claim management function; support other O&M workstreams such as COMS interfaces with other systems
- Ability to resolve on site issues in case of any damage or faulty COMS equipment’s during the operations
- Act in compliance to technical Rulebooks and Guidelines (such as AREMA Standards, Transport Canada Regulations, national, provincial and local regulations)
- Create overview of individual Asset health and its condition
- Implement and update the Asset Management and Maintenance Plans for Facilities
- Assist in forecasting the Asset behavior and develop measures to improve the Asset condition
Education
- Completion of a Computer Science degree, or Cisco certificates (CCNP, CCIE) or related field – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
Certifications or Designations
- CCNP to CCIE or equivalent certifications
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of Communication Systems, such Fiber optical cable, transmission network, CCTV, public information display, Public Address System Radio, etc.
- Layer 1 connectivity protocol knowledge - RS422/RS485, Modbus, Profibus, SysNET etc. is an asset.
Competencies & Skills
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the COMS interfaces with Rolling stock and signaling systems. Communication using fiber, Fixed P2P Broadband, copper and using IP Networking for connectivity.
- Willingness to work in a complex project, providing new ideas and facilitating collaboration and cooperation between diverse stakeholders to deal with construction and complex engineering issues.
- Possesses a valid driver’s license
- Good knowledge of software development related to Railway assets.
- Knowledge of the principles of accountability and risk management
- Knowledge of project management principles and practices, including budget and schedule controls
- Ability to work in outdoor, track environments
