5-ton Owner Operator - Calgary
As a 5-ton Straight Truck Owner Operator, you will play an important role in helping us achieve our Vision by picking up and delivering freight on behalf of our customers in a safe, timely way. For the most part these consist of same-day pick up and deliveries in the Urban area you are based out of, but could also include some short haul highway work.
As a member of our driver team, you are the face of our company and it is important that you have a professional image and possess a positive attitude that takes pleasure in making people you interact with happy.
Position Overview

Customer Service, Pick-up and delivery of freight
· In all aspects of our company, everyone must be aware of how they influence the customer experience and be prepared to serve the customers in a positive and professional manner.
· Check all freight prior to loading and while delivering to confirm it is the correct freight to match the shipment and is in good condition.
· Identify when it is to be delivered by and work under the guidance of the dispatcher to ensure we complete the required service.
· Complete daily pre-trips of your truck and ensure it is maintained in good operating condition
· Be prepared to work each business day Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays between the hours of 7am – 5pm. Hours are approximate and may vary depending on the demands of the day.
You will provide:
• 5-ton straight truck with 24' box and tailgate system
• truck should be 7 years old or newer when you start
• vehicle insurance ($2 million CGL and $30,000 Cargo + Dangerous goods hauling)
• Smart phone and / or tablet
• White in color, company decals will be applied
• Pallet Jack, Straps, Two-wheeler
Alberta WCB Account
• Clean Drivers abstract
· Experience in driving a commercial delivery vehicle
· Delivering Freight to customers (warehouse, retail)

Skills required
· Able to safely operate the vehicle contracted to Steele’s
· Reading written instructions and following them
· Verify the information assigned matches Bills of Lading shippers provide when picking up freight and report discrepancies
· Safely load, unload cargo protecting it from damage and securing for transport with proper load securement
Experience required
· Minimum of 5 years accident-free driving of commercial vehicles in Canada
· Customer service experience to draw on when working with a variety of customers and members of the public
· Operating freight handling equipment i.e: Pallet jack, two-wheeled dolly, cargo straps etc.

Cognitive ability
· Able to read and understand written instructions
· Able to confirm information dispatched matches the shipment being offered by a shipper including counts of freight and condition
· Identify any special requirements the loads need. I.e.: protect from freezing, requested time of delivery, which documents to keep and turn in to the office
· Able to scan and upload all documents as deliveries are completed to our dispatch system
· Determine safest handling and loading of freight and weight distribution on your truck
