Seasonal Tunnel Room Labourer - Night shift
B. General Functions/Specific Responsibilities:
This person is expected to fulfil the following key functions and responsibilities:
- SAFETY PRE-REQUISITES
- Must know where all emergency stops are in the tunnel room.
- Must work in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures and report all unsafe or unhealthy conditions to your supervisor.
- Must be trained in the evacuation procedure including where to meet in case of emergency.
- Must be lock-out trained.
- Must be trained on what to do during a power outage.
- Must know how to start and stop all machinery in the tunnel room.
- FOOD SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be trained and follow the glass procedure.
- Must be trained and follow the knife procedure.
- Must be trained and follow the tape gun procedure.
- Must set the bar with GMP’s and report any food safety deficiencies within the tunnel room.
- Must immediately communicate with the supervisor or QA of any products issues in the tunnel room (i.e.: EVM and FM).
- Must insure you are following all food safety protocols.
- Must work in compliance with established HACCP food safety and GMP protocols and report any concerns to supervisor.
- COIL AND CAUSTIC EXPECTATIONS
- Must remove auger plugs prior to a coil/caustic and ensure plugs are in prior to production start up.
- Ensure appropriate augers are moved prior to a coil/caustic, and are in place prior to production start up.
- Ensure floors are being dried after the coil/caustic.
- Ensure all floors are being squeezed and wheel barrels are emptied.
- Ensure that empty totes/humpies are on the line ready for production after coil/caustic.
- PRODUCTION EXPECTATIONS
- Responsible for building and inspecting totes. Set damaged or unstable totes aside in a garbage tote pile.
- No more than 10 totes are to be built at any one time.
- Responsible for building totes as per customer requirements (CSC contracts, corner posts kick-ins are to be used).
- Responsible for ensuring the proper corner posts are used, the proper totes are being used, the proper liners are being used and proper pallets are being used. Also ensure that totes are being built to meet safety requirements (all 4 posts are in each tote and the totes are square on the pallets).
- Ensure pallets are correct for the customer and are not damaged or unstable.
- Built appropriate totes for specific customers as directed by the supervisor or lead hand.
- Responsible for keeping floors and work areas free of product and debris.
- Responsible for taking wheel barrels outside as necessary.
- Do not build a surplus of totes. Contracts can change at any time. Max totes @ any one time.
- Sanitize your hands before opening liners in the totes.
- Load assessment (corn line).
Tote raking Duties:
- Responsible to check each tote prior to filing to make sure all 4 posts are in, suitability of the totes and pallet, squareness of the totes on the pallet as well as checking that the liner is opened in a way that it will not fall into the tote as the tote fills.
- Responsible to ensure that each empty tote is tagged properly and that each full tote is printed properly. This is done using the yellow pendulum, which communicates to the scale and ticket printer.
- Monitor the tote as it fills with product on the scale, rate the product in the tote as needed so the product will settle in and not overflow. Observe for foreign materials and objects when the tote is filling. Must meet tote weight target set by supervisor.
- The person raking must sanitize hands before touching any part of the liner (after raking or touching the pendulum).
- Responsible for keeping floor and work area free or product and debris.
- Monitor product for any abnormality such as high temperatures, high EVM or high FM. Notify supervisor and QA immediately.
- Must work in compliance with established HACCP, food safety and GMP protocols and report any concerns to your supervisor.
- Other duties as required and directed by your supervisor.
- Must ask your supervisor if there is anything you do not understand or are not 100% sure of.

F. Extra duties (during downtime)
- Clean floors in the tunnel room.
- Squeegee floors.
- Sweep carton shed, shipping and the old dock.
- Sweep the freezers.
- Other duties as instructed buy your supervisor.
